A wonderful wine. Full of spark and controlled emotional rage. Green apple, cucumber granita, lime zest and wet chalk. Like many great Porongurup Rieslings, this will smack you awake and remind you that power isn’t always from show muscles, but from typicity, great quality fruit and restraint in the winery. It would also make the perfect aperitivo. In the mouth, the acid is taut and frames the experience, as it should, the grapes coming from 300m above sea level. Torn white roses, pomelo pith and soda water follow. This subregion in the Great Southern is one of Australia’s most striking. As is this Riesling.

A Chef-turned-Sommelier and award-winning wine professional, Cyndal recently left a Group Sommelier role where she curated seven wine lists across multiple venues and led the wine team to Gourmet Traveller Wine Bar of the Year—just months after opening. Now freelance, Cyndal is a wine consultant, event host, wine judge, and wine writer. Passionate about sharing wine’s story with the world, she brings a fresh voice and creative solutions to the industry.
