Mezzaluna is Italian for half moon, this is the inaugural release of decades of research, clonal selection, trial and error. The first release of a reserve Nebbiolo from the Hexham vineyard. 100 days on skins and matured in 500L puncheons for three years and a further nine months in bottle. The wine opens with Rosella flowers, rosehip and sweet chilli peppers. Moves into Morello cherries in syrup and ristretto coffee. Terra cotta clay and powdered nutmeg spice. Tannins are sandy and build over time with each sip and so too does the smile across your face as you taste white pepper, bay leaf and capers. Acidity plays in loops and allows for those gravelly tannins to carry cherry fruit right to the finish. There are layers upon layers of flavours and shifting shapes and one hell of a first release. A wine to watch and serve with veal picatta. Drink now or cellar for 3-6 years further.
