As soon as you pour this into the glass, the colour is most striking. It’s deep and dark, and virtually impenetrable. This is a medium-bodied wine, but still with plenty of fruit weight and intensity. It was basket pressed before it spent about 15 months in French and American oak, and I think that American oak really plays an important part, adding its slightly creamy vanillin texture to complement the spicy plummy notes of the variety. Cellar for sure if you wanted, but for me, drink in the next few years. It’s thoroughly delightful.
