Straight Up by Phillip Moraghan Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2021

Share

You don’t get many Mornington Peninsula Pinots at this kind of price any more as the region has been going from strength to strength. This version has good varietal typicity in a darker fruit spectrum. Bright mid cherry in colour, it opens with pretty, vibrant and strongly varietal aromas with layers of dark cherry, dark earth and toasted spices topped with almost floral complexity and subtle oak. It’s then surprisingly light weight, with supple acidity, again with layers of dark brooding fruits leading to a spicy, earthy finish. It’s a little raw right now and needs some time to come together so probably best enjoyed with something hearty such as mushroom risotto.
