Straight Up by Phillip Moraghan Chardonnay 2021

I have always liked Phillip Moraghan’s Chardonnays since I first saw them back in 2004. In this wine he has brought a wealth of experience to the table to craft what is an outstanding, if early drinking, style of Yarra Chardonnay to enjoy over the next three or four years. It’s beautifully pitched and immediately complex with precise and focused nectarine and citrus primary fruits wrapped up in a cloak of fine spicy/vanillin oak, savoury beeswax adding a nice touch – a step up on 2020 with good concentration. The palate is then dry, juicy and more savoury with nutty, nougat flavours leading to a silky, subtle and lengthy finish. Great value.
