Tamar Ridge Reserve Pinot Noir 2023

Share

Tasmania’s Tamar Valley is a happy hunting ground for Pinot Noir lovers. In a cool, wet year like 2023 the grape managed to secure reserve status at Tamar Ridge, showing a distinctly fine-boned and fruit-filled side that should carry it easily through to medium term cellaring. Balances tension with some lovely aromatics of summer pudding red berries with raspberry, cherry and strawberry. Shows an upfront fruity side, juicy, fresh and vibrant which tends to belie the usual reserved seriousness and certainly expectations of what was a generally more challenging vintage. Instead, it offers a palate bursting in sour cherry, red fruits, earth, briar and a gentle spiciness led by nicely measured tannins. A degree of whole bunchy-ness closes in on the finish with a green leafy note that resonates. Leave to breathe or a couple of good swishes in the glass and it opens up a treat. Meets any need or call out for immediate enjoyment but carries much in “reserve” so to speak. Something for now, something for later.
