From the Teakle vineyard in Port Lincoln. Charred game meat, rhubarb, black pepper, black olive, blackberry, coal, and a glimmer of dried rosemary define the aromas. It’s savoury and brooding aromatically, with air bringing everything together and making it call out for food. The palate is deep and lush but doesn’t descend to weightiness, with notes much akin to the nose. Blackberry, meat, black plum, black pepper and coal with black olive and dried herbs in support. The tannins are fine-but-firm with a grainy texture, adding some mocha-like bitterness through the finish. I like the savouriness of this wine – it sits above the fruit nicely adding dimension and complexity to a good level given the relatively modest price point.
