Tenutua Sassoregale Maremma Sangiovese 2017

The Maremma region sits on the Western side of Tuscany on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Just to the East are the vineyards that most pundits reckon are home to Italy’s greatest Sangiovese, in the hills around Siena and Montalcino. But I have always had a soft spot for the Maremma, where the slightly warmer climate makes bolder and richer styles with slightly less acid twang than further to the East. And that’s why it is also home to many of the greatest and most age-worthy Super Tuscans.

This Maremma Sangiovese is fantastic value. It is immediately attractive and leaps out of the glass with black cherry, nutmeg, cedar and oak aromas. The fruit is bright, ripe and juicy on a mid-weight palate. There is also a fleshy mouthfeel and supple tannins that drive an elegant and long finish. Get it now from Dan Murphy’s.
