I reckon this style of Riesling has been sitting in winemaker Tony Davis’ kit bag for many years and just waiting for the right time to bring it out. It’s Riesling with a different spin. There’s an intensity of flavor which you’d probably expect from this pretty warm vintage down in the Porongurup, but it has a lightness and finesse about it. I love its grainy, gravelly feel in the mouth with a mix of spices, apple, and wet granite. It’s a compelling combination. This is not a Riesling as you might expect, and it offers tremendous flavour definition and a sustained long finish. Really exciting style of wine.

In 2017 Ray co-authored The Way it Was – A History of The Early Days of the Margaret River Wine Industry and previously wrote Wine in the Blood: Australia’s Family Wine Estates, published in Mandarin and English. In 2011 Ray was awarded WA Wine Press Club Jack Mann Memorial Medal for his contribution to the WA wine industry. His love of wine is as strong as his love of the blues and tasting the thousands of wines that cross his bench each year allows him to indulge in both.
