Tim Smith Bugalugs White 2022

The term ‘Bugalugs’ is often used in that familiar way that hints at mockery but is in fact just a term of endearment to those you love most. I’m not sure how Tim Smith intended the phrase but the ‘Bugalugs’ wines fall into the former sentiment. Wines of humble beginnings that you feel at home with and supreme affection for.

A blend of the winemaker’s favourite white varietals and inspired by the blends of the Rhone, this wine is for drinking as opposed to dissection. My bets are that Viognier plays a part and the richer Roussanne might get a look in but more importantly it’s an assembly of peach skin, melon and yellow apple with lemon oil and candied ginger. The middle palate is laden with texture and acidity and washes through in waves. Nutmeg and roasted almonds linger on the finish. A wine that could be enjoyed by many and good company for all things grilled and shellfish like.
