This is very pure and precise with brilliant impact to firmly reinforce the value of Vat 1 Semillon in the Australian wine landscape from a quality perspective. Lemon curd, lime skin, lanolin, lemongrass, macadamia nuts, gentle miso butter, mandarin pith and oyster shell minerality with some wheaty, mealy notes in support. Such lovely complexity and interest. The palate is equally precise, with an even, flowing feel and good concentration. It’s packed with fresh mandarin rind and lemon peel while the rich-but-subtle buttery notes linger in the background. There’s some lemongrass in the mix and some crushed rock minerality adding detail before a lovely cut of citrus-laden acidity constricts the mouth and draws great freshness through a long and chiselled finish. Texture and tension are masterfully balanced. This is a classy release, and one that impresses now but will also delight well into the future for those who have the patience.
