Tyrrell’s Vat 8 Shiraz Cabernet 2023

Share

This is savoury in its meaty beginnings before some dark fruit notes are quick to fill things out. Iodine, grilled meat, blackberry, black cherry, black pepper, a kind of menthol mintiness. It’s dark in nature but with some lovely detail. With air, some subtle dark chocolate and anise notes appear, along with some tar and old leather that add a nostalgic feel. The palate melds dark fruits and savoury notes nicely – black cherry, blackcurrant, leather, anise spice, black olive, plum, black pepper. The tannins are ripe and stacked without being overbearing, as they frame the wine to a nice long finish. There’s a menthol note again through the finish that adds a cooling feel. The quintessential Australian blend is well composed in this wine – depth and darkness balanced by detailed complexity.
