Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Vasse Felix was one of the first in the Margaret River. And in recent years under absolute star winemaker Virginia Willcock they are now right at the pointy end of the region for quality. As soon as these wines arrive at the front door the boxes are ripped open to see what Virginia and the team have come up with for their next releases. They are also great people and that shows in all the wines.

So the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon – super year so expectations are high…….and the wine delivers in a classic Cabernet kind of way. It’s not big, bold and showy – far from it. It’s taut, sinewy and firm like an olympic gymnast with lots of gravelly, blackcurrant fruits with that dried herb and sage edge. A bit shy now and made for the long haul but concentrated and structural – it will sing over time.
