Vinea Marson Heathcote Shiraz Viognier 2016

Share

There are not many shiraz viognier blends in Heathcote but the success of this wine suggests there should potentially be more, with viognier helping to soften what can sometime be challenging wines. This particular example is a wild ride and shows the benefits of bottle age. There is good depth of colour followed by a superb expression of shiraz with Heathcote’s terroir on full display.

Baked earth, tar and ground spice with gently peaty aromas are underlaid by dark berries providing a very welcoming start. The palate is more savoury again; gamey, spicy, mushroom and iron filings are all underpinned by quite supple tannins – the finish ethereal and lingering. Team it up with roast venison for maximum enjoyment.
