The cool, dry conditions in the lead up to the 2022 harvest in the Yarra Valley are reflected in this striking, steely young Chardonnay. Coiled, taut and edgy, it brings added meaning to the wine term, line and length. If you ever wondered why critics use the term or what it all means, here it is with driving, bright, natural acidity calling the shots and largely defining the wine. Preserved lemon, grapefruit, almond, saline and chalky scents. Not exactly textbook Yarra Valley, it’s less plush than usual, but the vintage allows for some savoury moments amid quince, white peach, spice and apricot pip dry flavours against a well-structured background of assertive, sherbet-like acidity. Offers tension plus and good cellaring credentials.
