Warramunda Liv Zak Yarra Valley Malbec 2019

Malbec, now there’s a grape name you don’t see very often. At least, you don’t see it all by itself, taking centre stage and doing a wow job at it, too.

Bravo to the people at Liv Zak who have taken the decision to promote this grape and present it in such a fantastic vehicle, eschewing the influence of new oak and going with 15 months in seasoned French barrels. The wine sings.

It’s a lovely, smooth, textural and concentrated wine of some depth and impressive length. Yes, it has all the bases covered.

Pomegranate, Middle Eastern spice, raspberry, blackberry, touch of pepper aromas. A potent palate of wild berries, dark plums. So smooth with emerging complexity in its youth. The wine does the malbec grape proud.
