Yabby Lake Vineyard Mornington Peninsula Single Vineyard Pinot Gris 2025

The Single Vineyard in question is Block 2 at Tuerong which resides on sandy clay loam with iron shot stone. Fermentation was in a mix of stainless steel and seasoned oak which brings forth a wine that is both well composed and nicely restrained with solid texture and balance. Delivers aromas of white flowers, apple, nashi pear, citrus, lime peel and light dusting of gingery spice and herbals. Judicious old oak use brings a smooth creaminess aligned to mineral tang and clean brisk acidity with a charming thread of citrus, apple, pear with lime peel. Finishes on a high note of tangy citrus peel and sweet pastille. Sits well in the Mornington Peninsula Gris style, a region that helped pioneer the Gris grape variety in Australia.

Jeni Port is one of Australia’s top wine communicators. Based in Melbourne, Jeni created the first wine column in the (then) Sun News-Pictorial before moving over to The Age and becoming that paper’s longest-serving wine writer. Over the years she has written for most Australian wine magazines and these days calls WinePilot home. She is also a Tasting Panel member on the Halliday Wine Companion. She was named Wine Communicator of the Year and Legend of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival in 2014 and in 2018 Legend of the Vine. She is a founding board member of Australian Women In Wine and is the co-deputy chair of Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards and China’s Wine List of the Year Awards.
