Yelland & Papps Single Vineyard Roussanne 2024

Share

Sourced from a single vineyard in Greenock, this is from 100% free-run juice, wild-fermented and matured in a balance of new and seasoned French oak puncheons with regular bâtonnage. Peach iced tea, chamomile, herb butter, quince, a flicker of flint, cedar spice. This walks the line of richness and freshness well. The palate is elegant in feel while still showing some silky, waxy texture around peach pulp, cedar, lemon butter, dried herbs and kumquat. Intensity is perhaps a minor quibble. Firm and febrile phenolics frame the finish, though they feel somewhat disjointed at this phase of the wine’s life. It’s quite nervy in a way, and perhaps time will see things click into place with regard to both structure and oak.
