Allinda Wines Yarra Valley Syrah 2017

Share

This Yarra Syrah (Shiraz in Aussie terms) has 2% co-fermented Savagnin included, something we certainly do not see every day. The intention of such additions is usually to add colour to the wine and increase the aromas. First, the juice is hand plunged in open fermenters before spending 12 months in French coopered American oak, 10% new and 10% second fill. Under cork, this is red/ochre in colour. The aromas include animal hides, leather, dried herbs and warm earth plus some dark berries and tobacco leaf notes before an array of secondary flavours. There is quite a difference on the palate, with more dark berries, which really step up. Good focus, decent length and a slight sappiness which is appealing. This wine has a future, though is certainly attractive now. Perfect for a plate of charcuterie.
