Marnong Estate Single Vineyard Montepulciano 2025

This is one of the better examples of the Italian “mon-ta-pull-channo” (insert hand gestures) grape that I’ve seen in Australia. It’s meaty, fierce and kind-ah-hot. Rusty nails, ripe black blood plum and boysenberry. It’s the kind of wine that needs a big fat stew alongside it. In the mouth, the fruits are pure and tarter than expected, bringing vibrancy and youth to what is otherwise a rather chunky-monkey. The tannins are grainy, and there are plenty of them. It’s fun to drink something equally as polarising as it is comforting.
