Anvers Barbera 2022

Share

A first bottling from newly planted vines. 10% whole bunches into open top fermenters with the rest destemmed with gentle plunging. 55% pressed to French oak of which only 10% was new and the rest into stainless steel. Aged for 10 months on light lees. An intense wine with plenty of concentration for its youthful vines. A real bramble of boysenberry, mulberry and some cassis. Cherry cordial and plum jam. A rosemary twig or two with dark chocolate and powdered coffee. The palate is medium bodied with a completeness to the sandy tannins and lift of acidity. It shows the seductive side of Barbera well, with a touch more cheek and character that I find quite enjoyable. This will be an interesting wine to watch as it matures in bottle and also as the vines age. For now this is ideal bbq pizza or smokey ribs territory. Drink now or will cellar for 2-3 years further.
