Barone Di Villagrande Contrada Villagrande 2017

Share

Barone Di Villagrande has been making wine since 1727. These are artisanal wines working with gravity fed processes with sustainability in mind. The 2017 Etna Rosso Cru ‘Contrada Villagrande’ is made up of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% of both Nerello Cappuccio and Mantellato. The wine’s aromatics are chiefly of Mount Etna first and foremost, smoky black igneous volcanic rocks lend way to black dried cherries, plum skin and blackberries followed by dried licorice root, black vinegar and wood ear mushroom. Elevated acidity drives forward with grainy tannins that sit upfront and what is left is a savoury rye bread crust and black tea. A wine with huge intrigue, complexity and utter enjoyment. Drink with charred skin duck breast or a masterstock chicken. Superb.
