Berrigan Shining Rock Sangiovese 2022

Adelaide Hills, from a vineyard 400m above sea level and shallow, rocky soil comprised of mica shist, granite and clay loam. 3 week open-vat ferment, hand plunged, basket pressed and matured on lees in young oak barrels for 12 months. Deep ruby in the glass, a joy on the nose with jumbles of lively red fruits: cranberries, raspberries and red cherry jostled for attention with dusty earth, red and crumbly. It smells like Christmas – that is, if your Christmas involves spiced cranberry sauce. A candied violet fragrance simmer underneath. Mouthfilling, youthful and fresh, yet also layered and complete with concentrated fruit. Aniseed and purple wine gums jubes and crushed dried peppermint tree leaves. The tannins provide an open invitation to drink now; this is a wine that beckons you to live in the moment. A distinctly Aussie iteration of this Italian variety and a joyful wine.
