Brown Hill Perseverance Cabernet Merlot 2019

In case you were wondering, why Perseverance, as I was? It turns out that many of the names given to Brown Hill Estate wines hark back to the early goldmines of Kalgoorlie. The Brown Hill founders grew up in the famous gold town. It’s a nicely evocative name for this Margaret River cabernet blend that continues to persevere against an avalanche of 100% cabernets coming out of the region. There’s a place for both, as Perseverance ably demonstrates. Makes an immediate impact in iridescent purple-red hues, so youthful and bright. Lifted aromatics of violet, fragrant rose with plum and black fruits.

There is real energy in the glass on display: a freshness and density of dark cabernet and lifted merlot fruit that fills the mouth. It is backed by smart, thoughtful oak and an arresting herbal streak that helps to elevate everything around it, contributing to the forementioned energy and life of the wine. A nice little savoury twist of bitter chocolate keeps things punchy, finishing with a touch of amaro bitters, whetting the appetite.
