Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc sometimes gets a bit of a hard time. Yes there are oceans of it coming across the Tasman everyday and plenty of it pretty much tastes the same. But then you come across a wine like this from Catalina Sounds and you remember why we all fell in love with it in the first place. But this is no everyday Sauvignon Blanc with plenty of effort going in to make this wine much more than your average Kiwi Savvy.
It opens up as you’d expect with layers of pungent, powerful guava, passionfruit and cut grass fruits, but it is what lies underneath that really hits the spot with a subtle savoury edge plus the spice of oak. It then has a lovely texture to it, both crisp and slightly creamy. The fruit is also beautifully pure and bright, with great concentration and length. This is one serious Savvy.
