Chard Farm Eliza Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019

Share

From the Bannockburn sub-region in Central Otago, this is another single vineyard Pinot. The team have harvested a three tonne parcel from the vineyard, which they see as standing on its own merits. The clones are 777 and 115; the soil alluvial schist with lime. The colour here is a warmer red than we have encountered before. The aromatics include mixed spices, warm earth, florals, red berries and an interesting character that seems almost slightly briny, perhaps from the lime? It adds to the complexity here. There are also notes of plums and cherries. As one gets to the lengthy finish, the cherry notes morph to a pleasing sour cherry character. A finely balanced wine, with good acidity and length, and a good future surely. One of the more plush and luscious Pinots in the collection.
