The name ‘Apremont 1248’ is an homage to the nights of November 24th and 25th, 1248, when a huge landslide covered part of the Chambéry Gorge and the Grésivaudan Valley, forming a 900 metre high cliff, the highest in France. ‘Apremont’ apparently means ‘bitter mountain’ in French. Cool! 100% Jacquère. Bruised apple, walnut, pear, honeysuckle and apple blossom are underpinned by an emergent and building brininess adding savoury dimension. Some kumquat, a twist of orange and a glimmer of pastry dough as it warms. It’s bright, fresh, and pure on the palate which largely mirrors the nose. Fresh apple and salinity lead the charge as it glides through the mouth, buoyed by a clean and persistent line of apple-drenched acid. There’s a good mixture of tension and fruit here, culminating in a mineral edge and nice length. Weighing in at a breezy 11.5% ABV, this is bright, pure, and very moreish. A delicious Jacquère.
