Reticent to start with a dark, brooding and spicy profile. Spiced plum, olive tapenade, liquorice root, damp earth, cedar and subtle clove. Nutmeg and a gentle ferrous mineral note to follow. There’s complexity here, but it’s tightly wound and challenging you to draw it out. There’s some oak chew to the palate which is brooding and deep set much akin to the nose. Dark berries, plum, earth, and mocha are quickly wrapped up in firm powdery tannins and assertive acidity, drawing length to a cacao-laced finish. A wine of power, confidence and broodiness. The elements are there, but this wine needs time to integrate and settle before showing what it’s truly made of.
