This is a project of Alvaro Palacios, one of the undisputed fathers of the Spanish Wine Renaissance, with his nephew Ricardo. We are in Bierzo, a region in Spain’s North West that is geo-politically Castillan, but Galician at heart, home to a remarkable variety named Mencia.
DJP Petalos is quintessential Bierzo: more body and flesh than its Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras counterparts without losing that cool edge that, especially in more Atlantic vintages, defines it. Violets, loads of wild thyme, plum and smoke. Incredibly structured palate, with a pink peppercorn kick, sap and black minerals. The tannins have the meatiness and the tenderness of a Scotch Fillet and endlessly just keep on releasing flavours with a harmonious alternation of sour cherry and Ghana Chocolate balanced by a mild citric tension. Just gorgeous.

Born and raised in Naples, Italy, Andrea came to Australia in 2013 after graduating with an environmental science degree. While working as a waiter in between jobs, Andrea found he enjoyed hospitality much more than his previous career during a stint working at MoVida Sydney. After a short apprenticeship at 121 BC, Sydney’s ground-breaking gem for Lo-Fi Italian wines, and a few months with the Lotus Group, Andrea moved to Melbourne and reunited with Movida. He’s been curating the highly regarded Wine List at Movida Melbourne, including one of the country's finest Spanish selections, for the past 3 years while studying for the WSET diploma.
