Fruit is from the 1997 planted Walsh Block through the ambitious friendship of Norm Latta and Frank and Kerry Walsh. Lying along Coghills Creek Road at 430m in altitude soils are weather basalt over grey loam. Destemmed MV6 fermented in open concrete indigenous yeasts with no pump over, basket pressed to barriques. Christmas cherries, bayberries and hawthorn. There is a piquancy to the tart red fruit that is alluring and beckons you in. A touch of cured meats, white pepper and mandarin oil. Redcurrants are ripe on the palate and elevated acidity carries the bresaola and savoury qualities through till the end. Ethereally fragrant with tea rose, swirls of powerfully fine tannins. Almost Piedmontese in structure and fragrance. This will go the distance but if drinking now go for blush lamb loin and olives.
Shanteh cut her teeth at Sydney’s Award-Winning Quay restaurant where she worked for over a decade and was Head Sommelier from 2018 till 2022. She has been nominated for the Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year award on three occasions and claims that her experience as a Len Evans scholar as one of the highlights of her career.
