George’s Folly Fleurieu So Vain Jane Sauvignon Gris 2023

Share

The almost unknown Sauvignon Gris is a mutation of the much more famous Sauvignon Blanc. This is only the second one I’ve ever tried – and the first from Australia – so I jumped at the chance to sample it. Aromatically, it’s quite similar to Sauv Blanc, although a little less punchy. There’s grass, asparagus, green capsicum and herbaceousness, putting it quite squarely in the savoury realm, although there’s a touch of melon as well. The palate is silky soft, salty and with lots of mineral zip, as the grassiness is accentuated in the mouth. Overall, it’s very tasty and would make a fine introduction to this rare grape.
