Gibson Wines ‘Discovery Road’ ‘Il Minestrone’ 2019

I love the name of this wine which completely sums up what it is all about. A mixed bag of grape varieties thrown together (I am sure it was more careful than that) including shiraz, tempranillo, montepulciano, nero d’avola, merlot and grenache to create a hearty and satisfying drink. And it is super value too.

Deeply coloured there is a wide array of fruits – from blackberry and earth at its core to spice and tobacco, topped up with creamy vanillin oak. There is great freshness and vitality in the wine too which makes it hard to put down. It’s not massive either for a Barossan – more of a supple bistro red with quite silky tannins although with a long and generous finish. It’s not overly serious but scores high for drinkability.
