Gioiello Estate Old House Merlot 2020

Fruit is from the Yea Valley on the Goulburn River of Central Victoria with vines planted in 1987. Now into its 6 years of bottle age, this is showing macerated cherries, fig and the earth tones of pulled rhubarb stalks. Some caraway seed spice and sweet paprika powder. Tannins are velvety and the wine nestles into the middle palate, comfortably. There is energy and lift here with those flecks of cherry coconut and creamy hazelnut praline on the finish. This is for those that love the savoury and melting notes of spice and sweet red fruit. It will relax weary bones and warm one’s heart. Drink now with some chorizo and sweet red peppers.
