Gundog Estate Rare Game Shiraz 2021

Some hallowed vineyards give birth to this wine including part of the old Lindeman’s Ben Ean. Mid ruby in colour, it is a fragrant and ethereal edition of Hunter Shiraz that, while not likely to be long-lived, offers plenty to get excited about. There is a beautiful mix of aromas including red currant, cranberry and blackcurrants topped with earthy spices all beautifully intertwined with some serious oak. A bright, juicy and mid-weight palate follows – a seductive, Hunter Burgundy style, which then builds more savoury, spicy nuances with charcuterie accents finishing long and supple. It’s an excellent result from a challenging vintage.
