Harewood Estate Reserve Chardonnay 2018

One of the fascinating sides to chardonnay is its flexibility as it can craft beautiful wines from the cool climates of Champagne all the way through to hot regions, such as the Napa Valley. This version is from Denmark in the Great Southern, which is definitely on the cooler side. Mid straw in colour it’s an intriguing and subtle wine, and still a little in its shell. There is citrus, floral and pineapple fruits plus some nougat and vanillin barrel ferment and ageing complexity. There is then good power on the palate although its bright acidity is the most striking feature giving freshness and impact to nectarine and citrus fruits. It is a subtle and understated style of chardonnay so best enjoyed not too chilled with seafood dishes such as baked Snapper.
