One of the most elegant and stylish of all the Hill of Roses, showing a strong vineyard and seasonal influence. Has a delightful perfumed exotic red fruit lift with that vineyard and regional sage bush and slightly herbal characters emerging. It’s an elegant and most charming wine of poise and precision. Has a slightly chalky character, which adds to its appeal, along with a wonderfully aromatic five-spice character. The Hill of Roses is produced from a mass selection from the Grandfather Vines in the Hill of Grace vineyard, planted as a nursery block in 1989. This is the 17th release, and because of seasonal problems was not produced in five vintages. The vineyard is managed with organic and biodynamic practices. There is a beautiful purity of fruit here expressed faithfully and subtly complemented by maturation in 100% French oak hogsheads for 20 months. These vines are approaching a stage where they could be considered for inclusion in Hill of Grace, but the question is: would they?
