Immediately full of appeal. There’s a lot crammed into this neat little red package from the pot pourri, cherry bon bon, red berried brightness of the bouquet, to the sweet-fruited, jubey/licorice allsorts flavours with glimpses of chocolate, violets and spice. It’s a fresh, vigorous red nicely wrapped in a wealth of ripe Barossan fruit. Cosy as.
There’s an additional character – let’s call it, ginger/spice – that I find really attractive. Is it oak? Maybe. Whatever it is, it adds something to the wine. Often referred to as arguably the most delicious easy-going red in the Henschke stable, Johann’s Garden gets my vote as a top drink to enjoy right now and then some.
