Henschke Stone Jar Eden Valley Tempranillo 2023

A winemaker who made Tempranillo in Spain always talked about the “red liquorice” character he sought in the variety. This Eden Valley Tempranillo has it, and it’s a delight. Brings that red liqorice spice to the fore together with a black cherry and blueberry brightness of fruit with dried rosemary, mustard seed, cocoa. Amid the fruit though there is a European-inspired savouriness of earth, dry leaves – a real autumnal touch – and a light, amaro bitter quality. It offers a fitting and fresh finish to what is a big, flavour-rich middle palate.
