Henschke The Nurturer 2024

Share

A wine to honour famed Henschke viticulturist, Prue Henschke, that includes grapes such as Counoise, Grenache Gris, Clairette and Cinsault, among others, seems a natural fit with her life’s work in exploring all manner of vinous possibilities.  Slotted in between those grapes are Carignan, Grenache and Shiraz. It’s a veritable fruit salad and it works so well from the brilliant red cherry and vivid cerise hues to the upfront, immediate drinking pleasure of the wine’s summer berry fruit appeal. Dusty earth red cherries, red plums, wild strawberry and raspberry scents mix with crushed herbs. It’s brisk, fruit filled, warm and textural with a charming down-to-earth kind of quality which reminds me very much of the woman it honours.  Cherry and summer fruits aplenty range across the palate studded in spices with herbs, chocolate and anise background notes. Bright acidity and mellow, gentle tannins make The Nurturer a versatile all-rounder.
