Expectations rise with the name alone. Gun metal is an evocative wine term often used to describe the steely minerality of Rieslings grown in stony, mineral-rich soils. In this instance, the term is most apt. Subtle, lean, intense, Gun Metal mixes lime and citrus intensity with the most arresting spice and herbs. Fragrant apple blossom, crab apple, grapefruit and lime emerge from the glass with background basil and rosemary. Chalky and dry to taste, the concentration of fruit on the palate is impressive with a purity of lime to the fore topped with notes of cress and sorrel. A classic Eden Valley style for now and/or later.
