Hewitson Monopole Mother Vine Shiraz 2019

Share

There is the odd vine that sticks out as you walk through the historic Old Garden Mourvèdre vineyard – little mistakes where the wrong variety has snuck in. This is the result from one of those mistakes, the vineyard for this wine planted from cuttings off one of the original accidental Shiraz vines planted in 1853 that has stood the test of time. Combined with the warm 2019 vintage it has crafted a big, ripe fleshy style that is deeply coloured and flavoured with lashings of fruit – liquorice, asphalt and wrought iron, with impressive concentration. Punchy yet sleek, it is packed full of small dark berry and chocolate flavours with old tobacco coming through on a long and persistent finish. A strong wine, with plenty of aging potential.
