Fiano can be an exciting wine when it’s done right. I recently had a brilliant example at The Green Door in the Ferguson Valley. It was concentrated, moreish, and pure – with the expected dry spice and Mediterranean finish that I have come to love. Regardless, this Fiano certainly wears its Margaret River roots on its sleeve, with tropical fruit notes and plenty of spicy green apple and white currant to draw me closer. The vinification of this wine becomes evident on the mid-palate. There is more texture and creaminess here than perhaps I expected, no doubt due to partial whole bunch press straight to barrel, the lees stirring, followed by 6 months in neutral French oak. Finishing on a pure and clean almost crisp note, this is an exciting expression of Margaret River Fiano. Vegan friendly.
