Sourcing a wine from multiple sub-regions may sound like tech jargon, but in the Great Southern, Australia’s largest wine region by land mass- it matters. This Pinot Noir draws fruit from Porongurup and Mount Barker, two sub-regions with very different personalities. The result? A playful and joyous wine. The fruit is bright, with red frogs, raspberry, rhubarb and orange skin; characteristics I often associate with a whole bunch, of which this wine contains 15%. In the mouth, the tannins are chewy, chalky and abundant, framing the concentrated fruit. The acid isn’t shy either. More red berries, warm terracotta and baking spices. Just like most of the Howard Park wines, this over-delivers for the price. It has power, integrity and will bring joy to the drinker.
