John Duval Wines Concilio Grenache Mataro 2019

Share

A new wine arrives from John Duval with a slightly more modern label and immediately the mind starts to turn. Has Tim taken the keys to the winery and are we going to see a super modern style from this highly regarded name? Well maybe just a little bit, with some juicy, spicy whole bunch cranberry, red liquorice and rose petal fruit aromas coming through to give upfront appeal. But then give this wine time in the glass over a couple of hours, with some assorted tapas, and it takes on a more serious pose with mataro increasingly coming out to play. There is still jubey, fruit pastille flavours which are now aided by more meaty and savoury tones adding a delicious counterpoint before a long and fleshy finish. Delicious now but I think this wine will sing for some time to come so offers remarkable value.
