This is a blend of different clones – 74% Clone 95 and the remainder the traditional Gingin from the original Wilyabrup vineyard. Whole bunch pressing straight to barrel for natural fermentation has contributed to both its structure and the fruit complexity and intensity. After fermentation it spent nine months in oak with nearly half new. Yet the fruit intensity has swamped the oak so it is perfectly balanced and poised. In the end, barrels were selected before the final blending. Complex and creamy with a savoury nougat and oatmeal influence while fine lingering acidity sustains its linear mouth feel.

In 2017 Ray co-authored The Way it Was – A History of The Early Days of the Margaret River Wine Industry and previously wrote Wine in the Blood: Australia’s Family Wine Estates, published in Mandarin and English. In 2011 Ray was awarded WA Wine Press Club Jack Mann Memorial Medal for his contribution to the WA wine industry. His love of wine is as strong as his love of the blues and tasting the thousands of wines that cross his bench each year allows him to indulge in both.
