You might not have heard of Kay Brothers. It is a winery that tracks under the radar, going about its own business making exceptional wines, if in a slightly old school style. Shiraz is the standout at Kay Brothers with traditional winemaking used to extract lots of classic McLaren Vale flavour and character.
The 2017 Hillside Shiraz is a big mouthful of a wine that never loses its balance with cocoa, mulberry, eucalypt, leather and spicy fruit all in massive proportions. It’s dry, dense and ripe with a fair dose of coconut scented oak plus a strong, muscular core of fruit on the palate that is almost explosive. The tannins are firm, and rustic which suits the wine beautifully. Delicious.
