Les Amoureuses Syrah 2019

This is a good example of the modern styles of wine now coming from the Ardeche region in France. These bright and juicy wines are made to please but still carry with them plenty of French style. With the Northern Rhone not far away, it is no surprise that the Ardeche is showing good potential with syrah. This wine is particularly popular in France no doubt thanks to its romantic side, as “Les Amoureuses” also translates to The Lovers.

This example is deeply coloured and is a complex and fruit forward syrah style. There is generous blackberry, olive tapenade and violets with a sprinkling of white pepper and some subtle oak sitting just underneath. The palate is then dry and fleshy – layers of blackberry and blackcurrant fruits sit over quite supple tannins that provide a lingering finish. A great introduction to French Syrah that does not disappoint.
