Longview Macclesfield Riesling 2022

Share

Riesling is enjoying an absolutely golden era, aided by a couple of sensational vintages in 2021 and 2022. Adelaide Hills Riesling may not enjoy the cache of those hailing from the Clare and Eden Valleys, but they most definitely should not be ignored. The fruit for this one, from the sub-region of Macclesfield, is from the winery’s 27-year-old vineyard, facing southeast and situated on ironstone. Destemmed, crushed and cool fermented in stainless steel, without the inclusion of any pressings. Gin clear in colour (or perhaps in the lack of it), there are good, intense, classic Riesling notes immediately apparent. Spices, minerals, limes, florals, a hint of wet river stones. Good concentration throughout, this is poised, taut, focused and very long. It is an attractive Riesling, worth drinking now for its freshness and verve, or cellar for a decade for the complexity and development to follow.
