Restrained aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, black olive, liquorice root and gravel straight up, followed by choc mint and a dusty oak nuance. Its six years in bottle have resulted in softness and cohesion. The palate is cooling and lifted, with black currant, black cherry, mint and wet gravel notes gliding through the mouth before an assertive hit of grainy tannins constricts the mouth into a linear frame, adding a mocha bitterness to the finish. Lovely coolness, restraint and line to this wine which is drinking nicely now. However, there’s some serious structure that will keep it unfurling nicely in a cellar over the next 5 or so years.
