Mitchell Wines Watervale Riesling 2021

Share

You’ve got to give Mitchell Wines some credit for going their own way. Putting wines down in the cellar for their very affordable aged McNicol releases is one example as is their individual wine styles across the range. Watervale is also known for some of South Australia’s most delicate rieslings while Mitchell deliberately walk a slightly riper path. It also makes their riesling much better suited to youthful drinking than many of their neighbours.

Light straw in colour, there are aromatic layers of lime and grapefruit with an attractive guava edge and upfront appeal. The palate is then quite textural, the fruit generous but there is also admirable complexity, with a nice little Watervale stony twist on what is quite a long finish. Drinkability is king here so it is an ideal wine to get riesling sceptics over the line.
